Tennessee HC Josh Heupel Credits Jim Knowles Hire for Unexpected Defensive Boost
Tennessee’s new defensive coordinator, Jim Knowles, is already making an impact, according to head coach Josh Heupel. Heupel stated that the communication during the hiring process allowed for a smoother and faster integration of Knowles’ defensive strategies.
The hire, worth $6.6 million over three years, aims to improve a Volunteers defense that struggled significantly last season. While some analysts express caution about the timeline for Knowles’ system to take root, Heupel believes the familiarity within the coaching staff is accelerating the learning process for the players.
