Maddison Claims Referees Fear VAR Decisions, Citing Leeds Penalty Controversy
Tottenham midfielder James Maddison believes referees are reluctant to make decisions on the field due to the fear of VAR overturning them, stating they are “petrified” to act.
His remarks came after a denied penalty appeal in the recent match against Leeds, which ended in a 1-1 draw. Maddison expressed his frustration that the speed of the VAR check suggested an unwillingness to make a potentially controversial on-field call.
