UEFA’s Referee Chief Calls for VAR Reset: ‘It’s Football, Not PlayStation’
UEFA’s referees’ chief, Roberto Rosetti, has criticized the current implementation of VAR, stating some reviews are too ‘microscopic’ and detached from football, likening it to a ‘PlayStation’ game. He launched the ‘Clear Line’ portal to guide fans and officials on when VAR should intervene, advocating for its use only for clear and obvious errors.
Rosetti highlighted inconsistencies in VAR application, particularly with handball decisions across European leagues, and aims to reduce lengthy reviews and restore the on-field referee’s authority, emphasizing the importance of context and normal-speed replays.
