UEFA Unveils Major Revamp for World Cup & Euro Qualifiers: End of Mismatches, Swiss System Adopted
UEFA has approved a significant new format for men’s World Cup and European Championship qualifiers, starting after Euro 2028. Based on Nations League rankings and incorporating a Swiss-style system, the changes aim to boost competitive balance and eliminate one-sided matches. This overhaul seeks to make qualification more dynamic and appealing for fans, without adding extra dates to the international football calendar.
