NASCAR President Steve O’Donnell has explained that the decision to cap Cup Series cars at 750 horsepower on short tracks, despite fan demand for more, is primarily a financial one. Increasing horsepower significantly would incur tens of millions in additional costs for OEMs and teams, covering R&D, fuel consumption, and engine development without guaranteed returns.

O’Donnell emphasized that the league aims to keep racing affordable to allow teams to invest in promotion and competition, making substantial power increases a complex and costly endeavor.
