Ligue 1 Title Race Takes Backseat as PSG vs. Lens Clash Postponed for Champions League Ambitions
Paris St-Germain’s pivotal Ligue 1 match against Lens has been postponed to May 13 to allow the French champions to prepare adequately for their Champions League quarter-final against Liverpool. The decision by France’s Ligue de Football Professionel (LFP) also saw Strasbourg’s league game moved for their Conference League tie, aiming to bolster France’s Uefa coefficient ranking.
While Lens initially opposed the reschedule, fearing the league’s diminished importance, the LFP emphasized supporting French clubs in European competitions. This strategic move highlights the growing importance of European performance for national leagues.
