Iranian Footballers Find Safe Haven: Two More Granted Humanitarian Visas in Australia
Two more members of the Iranian women’s football team have been granted humanitarian visas to stay in Australia, bringing the total to seven. The decision comes after the team drew attention for not singing the national anthem, raising concerns about their safety if they returned to Iran.
Australian officials facilitated private conversations with team members at the airport, offering them the opportunity to seek asylum, with Prime Minister Albanese expressing support for the players.
