Controversial Eligibility Shake-Up Paves Way for Véron Mosengo-Omba’s DRC Football Presidency Bid
A contentious rule change by the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s football federation (Fecofa) has seemingly cleared the path for Véron Mosengo-Omba, a close associate of FIFA president Gianni Infantino, to run for its presidency. Despite holding Swiss citizenship and only a diplomatic Congolese passport, an amendment allowing those with past football administration involvement to stand is expected to enable his candidacy.
This development, alongside alleged political backing from DRC President Felix Tshisekedi, has sparked controversy and criticism from within the country’s football circles, even as Mosengo-Omba pledges to tackle corruption and develop the sport.
