Italy’s FA Chief and Buffon Resign After Shock World Cup Qualification Failure
Gabriele Gravina, president of the Italian Football Federation (FIGC), has resigned following the national team’s failure to qualify for a third consecutive World Cup. Legendary goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has also stepped down as head of the men’s delegation.
The departures come after Italy’s playoff final loss to Bosnia-Herzegovina, a significant blow for a nation with four World Cup titles. UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin has also issued a warning regarding Italy’s co-hosting of Euro 2032 due to inadequate stadium infrastructure.
